asin Deepika hogs Asins role in Gowariker film Is Asin the John Travolta of Bollywood? Like the Grease star, the Southern siren is on a rejecting spree, the latest being a period drama starring Abhishek Bachchan directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar.Asin backed out of the film ‘Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se’ citing scheduling conflicts. But we all know why she quit, she thought her role wasn’t meaty enough, and told Gowarikar straightaway that sh won’t appear in just any two bit half baked roles. While we completely support her idea, how feasible do you think this should turn out for her?

As a result Deepika Padukone happily agreed to fill in the void left by Asin, and according to the former model, her character in the film is very interesting and she can’t wait to get started with filming. Padukone has even started preparations for the film, which is now in pre production stage. Incidentally, when Asin dropped the Ashutosh Gowarikar project like a hot plate, the director wanted to cast Sonam Kapoor or Genelia D’Souza, and had approached the two for the same. However Deepika Padukone was finalised and the project is now a go.

At the moment Asin does not have a single Bollywood or Tollywood release in the pipeline. Was this a wise decision? Before she gave ‘Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se’ a miss she had also turned down a role in Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming psychological thriller ‘Karthik calling Karthik’, the Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif comedy ‘De Dana Dan’ which releases next week, and also the Farah Khan directed Shahrukh Khan flick ‘Happy New Year’. And guess who bagged the lead role in the thriller, Deepika. What’s more, the latter is also in negotiations for SRK’s Happy New Year. Let’s hope this isn’t just another desi version of the John Travolta-Richard Gere scenario.
